Part 3: Slowing down (Beautiful reminders from Mitten Strings from God)

I have been wanting to re-share some posts from the days when I was a young mother - gems I had extracted from one of my wow-books*.

I am re-posting the series of 11 parts here, specially for the young mothers around me.  May your journey of motherhood be as beautiful and as enjoyable as the Lord intended it to be for us!

[*Wow-books are those that have shaped my life in some ways, and they occupy a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf, treasured.]

PART 3 - SLOWING DOWN

What kind of example do we set for our children as we race from here to there, trying to accomplish more, have more, experience more, in the course of a day?

Only by slowing down do we make time for one another.

Only by stopping long enough to observe our surroundings can we bring form and meaning to our lives and make the small adjustments needed to stay on course.

Our children need this kind of pause too.

Regular rest for the spirit is as necessary for their healthy grow as sleep, fresh air and good food.

When we create a haven of serenity - be it in a quiet room, by means of a simple ritual, or even in the space of a fleeting moment - we make room for spirit.

I do not want my children to experience their lives as a dash from one thing to the next.

I do not want them to be bombarded with noise, information, and media messages, to be pulled along on a currrent of activity and stimulation.

They need time to stop and exhale, time to feel centered, safe and whole.

I could continue to struggele against the cold weather and short days as I race from one holiday chore to the next.

Or I could take my cue from nature, and accept the earth's invitation to slow down.

May God grant us His peace so that we can be that haven of serenity for our children to stop and exhale, to regain their equilibrium and to feel life.   May your days be filled with serenity and love!

Excerpts from one of my best-loved books "Mitten Strings for God" by Katrina Kenison (ISBN0-446-52531-6).  I have benefitted greatly from Katrina's timeless reflections & I am certain my family did so too, through the changes brought about in me.  And I pray for God's abundant love and blessings to all families!

Do purchase the book, it contains so much more than the excerpts I am sharing here.  https://www.amazon.sg/Mitten-Strings-God-Reflections-Mothers/dp/0446676934
