I have been wanting to re-share some posts from the days when I was a young mother - gems I had extracted from one of my wow-books*.

PART 1 - RELATIONSHIPS

 

 

We know that our relationships - with ourselves and with each other - need time if they are to flourish. 

 

Parents & children alike need time for solitude - time to stretch & think and wonder, time to become aquainted with ourselves & with the world around us. 

 

And parents and children need sacred time together - time that is carved out of our busy lives, protected and honoured but not scheduled. 

 

Time, instead, for just being.  

 

In truth, a story - told from the heart and shared in flickering darkness - is more nourishing for our child's soul, and for our own as well, than another soccer practice, an audience with Mickey, or a pile of birthday gifts.

 

We all know this to be true. But sometimes we forget.  

 

And sometimes we do need help and inspiration as we try to negotiate our way from the full-scale chaos of a running-late Monday morning to a place of repose at a child's bedside at the end of the day.

 

True harmony is found within ourselves, and in quiet harmony with others.

 

 

Do we give our own children enough time to absorb the subtle teachings of tranquil moments?  

 

Are we granting them the time they need to develop an inner life as well as a social one?"
