The Assumption of Mary has to be understood with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is a victory over sin and death (2nd reading 1Cor 15)

Focusing on living
Because of the Resurrection of Jesus, every man and woman is able to share in the glory of God.  And so, we are called not to focus on death, because Christ has the victor over death.  We are called to pay attention to life.
  • How are we living
  • Why are we livng
  • For wha are we living

Mary’s life - one of Christian service
Mary was very concerned about what she was living for, why she was living and what God wants of her in life.

Mary’s life was an expression of faith in God, enjoying the love of God and living life expressing that love and service.

We are called to look at Mary and to look at ourselves.  She is a role model for us to follow.  She was the first disciple of Jesus.

Are we ready to be selfless like her and be other-centered?

Christian service brings joy to people
Christian service is powerful but it is not about the actions, goodwill and power of an individual.  It is powerful because it is done in Jesus Christ.  We carry Jesus with us as we serve, just like Mary carried Jesus as she made the selfless journey to the hills of Judah to visit Elizabeth, bringing joy not only to Elizabeth, but also to the baby in her womb.

Christian service is about encounters with Christ
And this encountering can only be rendered by Christian disciples.  Jesus is in us and is a part of us.  We carry Him with us.

Our whole life is a sharing with others.   And this kind of living grows into the fullness of life we can have in Christ.
