BEING LED BY THE SPIRIT
4 May 2018 - 5th Friday of Eastertide
Sharing my notes taken @ the Catholic Spirituality Centre (CSC), Singapore
- Homily by Rev Fr Colin Tan, SJ
Father Colin’s theme was “Being Led by the Spirit” and he focused on three points:
- Love - being able to experience the love of God
- Obedience - being obedient to the Lord
- Home - being at home and familiar with the Lord
In the journey of life, we can get side tracked and misled in so many ways - pride, greed, selfishness, unforgiveness - these can lead us astray.
But if we stay close to the Lord, we will be able to discern between the good Spirit and the bad ones.
If we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit, we will have the courage, power, grace and humility to not only receive but also offer forgiveness.
To be obedient means to hear, to listen, to spend quiet time to understand the voice of the Good Shepherd.
Our obedience is towards God’s commandments. When we do what He commands, the Lord will bless us with fruitfulness and kindness/generosity to help others.
The voice of the bad spirit is there speaking falsehoods to us undermining our sense of self worth and our identity and leading us away from God’s commands.
When we are tempted, take a deep breath and pray for the Holy Spirit’s help.
"For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” Rom 8:14-15
Be discerning, be aware, be alert to the movement of the Holy Spirit and be led by Him to bear fruits
When we live a Spirit filled life, Jesus will remain in us. We will live a holy, joyful life that will attract people and draw them to the Lord.
