THE POWER OF SILENCE - Notes - PART A2 - GOD WORKS IN SILENCE

I purchased The Power of Silence by Robert Cardinal Sarah back in 2017. Even after eight years, its pages - filled with profound wisdom - still wait to be fully read and understood.

I am not sure I will ever truly finish the book, let alone grasp the depth of each insight it offers.

Still, I hope that by taking notes and organizing them thoughtfully, I might begin to better comprehend and absorb the treasures it contains.

I am sharing these notes here, and I hope that the gems noted down may bless you as much as they continue to bless me.

THE POWER OF SILENCE - NOTES

PART A - SILENCE VERSUS THE WORLD'S NOISE

(A2) GOD WORKS IN SILENCE

-----------------------------------

God works in silence.

God achieves everything, acts in all circumstances, and brings about all or interior transformations, but He does it when we wait for Him in recollection and silence.

------------------------------------

Silence is the law of the divine plans.
  • In baptism, God utters his Word in the soul in silence - a new life is given, enabling the baptised to perform the godly acts of the children of God.
  • In priestly ordination, in the silence, in the depth of the being of the ordained, there is a true and real identification with Christ.
  • The transubstantiation of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ occurs in the utmost sacred silence.
------------------------------------

The real questions in life are posed in silence.
  • Our blood flows through our veins without making any noise.
  • We can hear our heartbeats only in silence.

-----------------------------------

God is a friend of silence.
  • Nature - trees, flowers, grass - grows in silence
  • The stars, the moon, and the sun, they move in silence.
     (St Teresa of Calcutta)

--------------------------------

The greatest mysteries of the world are born and unfold in silence.

  • How does nature develop?  In the great silence.
  • A tree grows in silence.
  • Springs of water flopw at first in the silence of the ground.
  • The sun that rises over teh earth in its spendour and grandeur warms us in silence.
  • In his mother's womb, an infant grows in silence.
  • When a new born is sleeping in his crib, his parents love to gaze at him in silence.

-------------------------------

What is extraordinary is always silent.

The wonders of the creation are silent, and we can admire them only in silence.

Art too, is the fruit of silence.

Great music is listened to in silence.

Wonder, admiration and silence function in tandem.
