DO NOT HATE, GIVE
(if you cant view it on FB, check this link: https://www.mamamia.com.au/eddie-jaku-died/)
My mum forwarded this video, it is good.
It is short, and wise, by Eddie Jaku, a Holocaust survivor who died aged 101 on 12 Oct 2021, just give days ago*.
He had two messages in the short video:
- Do not hate
- Give
I reflected on giving, on the kind of giving which is beyond material goods, beyond time, and effort.
The giving of compassion and forgiveness.
Eddie said, "Hate is a disease. It destroys first your enemy. But you also."
He also said, "If you give nothing, you get nothing."
Oftentimes, we may think we have forgiven someone, but we dwell on past hurts, and we cling on to unmet expectations.
We keep these so close to our hearts as if they will protect us from being hurt again, but in truth, they eat into us and they destroy us.
Giving involves surrendering, not only of our time, our efforts and our resources.
Giving forgiveness and compassion involves giving up of our hopes and our dreams, our plans and schemes, our tears and joy, our memories, our liberty.
It means to surrender all these to the Lord, and to accept the present as it is - to build upon it afresh.
It means giving space to allow a new relationship to blossom, and blossom it will, as Eddie says "If you give nothing, you receive nothing." Conversely, if we give (surrender) everything, it is when we realise we receive everything!
Our Lord promises, "My grace is sufficient for you." 2 Cor 9:10.
His love and grace, these alone are enough for us.
