Part 4: Peace (Beautiful reminders from Mitten Strings from God)
I have been wanting to re-share some posts from the days when I was a young mother - gems I had extracted from one of my wow-books*.
I am re-posting the series of 11 parts here, specially for the young mothers around me. May your journey of motherhood be as beautiful and as enjoyable as the Lord intended it to be for us!
[*Wow-books are those that have shaped my life in some ways, and they occupy a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf, treasured.]
I like a broad margin to my life....the less packed into a day, the better.
Sitting still, I am able to appreciate my life simply because I am taking the time to experience it.
But, even a few moments of tranquility can be hard won.
It seems that idleness is suspect; we are supposed to be on the go.
Perhaps that is why I am always so grateful for the small clearings that can suddenly appear in the midst of a busy day.
These accidental, hallowed scraps of time offer us a break from the outside world, at least for a few moments.
Having reaped the benefits of these accidental moments of grace, I am learning to leave some space around the edges of our days.
In a society that endorses activity, I think we would all do well to put more trust in stillness.
No matter how busy we are, we can find meaning and renewal in those moments that are available to us.
We can teach our children the value of a deep breath, of a spiritual pause, of rest, if we take time to learn it ourselves.
When I come to a stop myself, when I draw a circle of stillness around me, my children are drawn into that peaceful place.
They visibly relax, as if my calmness nourishes them.
The impact of just a few minutes of quiet attention can be profound, changing the mood of an entire day, restoring equilibrium to a distressed child, and to a frazzled mother as well.
In stillness, we find our peace.
Knowing peace at home, we bring peace to the world.
