Homily by Rev Fr Clement Lee, CSsR
Pentecost Triduum
ONE IN FAITH, LOVE AND SERVICE
Day 1 - Growth in Fath in the Risen Lord
FAITH is a gift from God.
It is the act of believing, with the help of the Holy Spirit, in God’s revelation of himself.
Faith and the Word of God
The best way to grow in fatih is through the Word of God.
The Bible is God’s Word to us
When we reflect on the Bible, God reveals Himself to us.
The Word of God must become powerful in our lives.
Faith and understanding
We may not understand the Bible all at once, but let the word stay with us.
It will gradually and graciously grow in us. And God will reveal His message to us.
Our relationship with God is our strength.
Faith and love
The more we keep the Word, the more our faith will be rooted in love.
Not in logic and reason, but in love.
And this love will be big enough for us to cope with all the questions we have even though we may not have all the answers.
Faith is founded on love. It is based on a trust that we have in the power of God.
The power of faith
When we trust and have confidence in God, we do things in God and great things will happen.
Amazing things take place when we surrender in confidence and trust, and allow God to take control.
Fr went on to tell a story about a village experiencing a drought and the villagers were going to gather to pray for rain. The village chief encouraged each to bring a symbol of faith to the prayer session. Some brought the rosary, some the cross, holy water, medal etc. Alas, their prayer was answered and rain fell and everyone was drenched except for a little boy, who brought an umbrella as his symbol of faith.
When we pray, we must have faith: we believe that great things will happen. Faith makes everything possible.
Faith is the greatest power that we can have. And God has given it to us.
Eph 3:20 Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine….
Growing in faith
Even a small spec of faith is enough for us to do great things in God. But we must not be content.
We must grow our faith.
We grow our faith by sharing it.
We keep the Word of God in our hearts, but we must not hoard it!
Use the gift of faith, share the Word of God in our homes, in Church, in society.
Fr ended the homily with a questions for us to ponder….
We ask the Lord for the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, what symbol of faith would we bring?
