ABOUT MATTHEW 22:1-10 - THE INVITATION TO THE WEDDING FEAST

Sharing my notes taken @ Church of the Holy Family, Singapore
- Homily by Rev Fr Eugene Lee, CSsR

Fr Eugene Lee CSsR celebrated mass and the Gospel was from Mat 22:1-10 - "Inviting everyone you can to the wedding."

How he started the homily reminded me of a passage about honouring the Holy Eucharist that spoke to me when I read it in The Imitation of Christ (Thomas A Kempis) :

"Oh, the blindness and the hardness
of the heart of man
that does not show more regard
for so wonderful a gift,
but rather falls into carelessness from its daily use!

If this most holy Sacrament were celebrated
in only one place and
consecrated by only one priest
in the whole world,
with what great desire
would men be attracted
to  that place,
to that priest of God,
in order to witness the celebration
of the divine Mysteries! "

Fr Eugene reminds us how little we do to prepare ourselves for the feast that awaits us.

If we want to enter Heaven, there are preparations to be done.

Wecannot take God’s blessings for granted.

He pointed to the wedding garment mentioned in Mat 22:12.  It is the robe of righteousness.

God gives freely to us, but we need to have the spiritual disposition to receive His goodness and graces.

Unless we properly prepare ourselves, we deny ourselves the chance to fully receive God’s blessings.

He gave two examples
  • How can we expect God to grant peace to us if we allow our minds to be filled with thoughts of revenge?
  • How can we love if all we care to do everyday is to bicker and fight?

We need to prepare ourselves anew each and every day.

We should honour this great invitation with faith prepare to be in the best wedding gown, completely humble and deserving, at the Kingdom’s banquet

May we allow the Spirit to guide and prepare us everyday, to be worthy guests to the Great Feast of the Heavenly Kingdom.
